Family Services of Greater Houston provides Family Support services and Individual/Family Counseling at the Center.  To find directions to the Center visit our Directions page.  You can reach Family Services staff at the Center at 713-690-6057 or 713-996-8781.

Family Support Services

Family Support Assistants help families identify and prioritize their service needs and access community resources to address those needs, such as:

  • family violence prevention training

  • life management skills

  • linkage to community resources

  • parent education

 

Individual / Family Counseling Services

 

Any individual or family can feel overwhelmed or stressed at times. The birth of a new child, rearing children or grandchildren, relating with in-laws, the loss of a loved one, financial hardships, problems at school or work and single parenting are common stresses that individuals and families encounter. As stress mounts, family members may be unable to support each other and family members may begin to feel isolated, anxious or depressed. During these times, FS Counselors are available to help.

 

Solution-Oriented Counseling Services

Our Individual / Family Counseling Services are based on on Solution-Oriented Counseling. Master’s-level therapists assist clients in solving problems such as:

  •  parent / child conflict

  • marital conflict

  • school-related difficulties

  • divorce issues

  • single parenting issues

  • substance abuse

  • work home issues

 

Solution-Oriented Counseling enables an individual or family to be its own source of support during times of crisis by reactivating existing coping skills or developing new ones to solve their problems.

 

FS Counselors are also available to help individuals infected with HIV or persons with AIDS, their families and significant others cope with the emotional issues associated with HIV/AIDS.

 

Family Services of Greater Houston recently received the 1999 Award of Excellence for Best Practices from Mental Health Corporations of America.  Mental Health Corporations of America recognizes organizational excellence as part of its Customer Satisfaction Management System.

 

Family and Senior Support Services

Family Services (FS) Family and Senior Support Assistants can provide a variety of assistance and referrals for individuals or families in need of accessing community resources.  Services are provided by professionals, experienced Support Assistants who work with you to determine your needs, and can assist you in:

  • accessing substance abuse services

  • arranging homecare services

  • establishing support systems

  • filling applications for benefits

  • linking to transportation services

  • obtaining dental, legal and medical services

  • resolving crisis situations

  • securing food and housing

  • seeking counseling

  • translating documents

and much more!

Once your needs are determined Support Assistants will help you develop a plan to meet your needs.  Services are provided on a sliding fee scale basis.  For more information, please call 713-867-7748.
