Establishment of the consortium responded to the need for an organized, united effort to combat illiteracy and implement workforce development. Included in the group are literacy program providers, business and industry partners, community agencies, the local workforce development board, career development centers, 15 public school districts, and three learning centers that comprise the Harris County Adult Education Consortium. At the Spring Branch Family Development Center the HCDE provides three very successful classes for English as a Second Language (ESL) every Tuesday and Thursday. A General Educational Development (GED) class has been added. Take a look at the Services page for information on the available times. The response to these classes has been great. The community requested the services during the initial needs assessment and has supported the classes from the very beginning.
